Suicide bomber enters popular restaurant crowded with police and
security personnel around lunchtime, triggers explosives strapped to
his body





An Iraqi soldier steps through the wreckage and blood stained floor
of a restaurant in Baghdad A suicide bomber in the Iraqi capital has
killed at least 10 people in a popular restaurant close to the heavily
fortified Green Zone government compound.

Early reports say the eatery was crowded with police and security
personnel, when the bomber entered around lunchtime and triggered
explosives strapped to his body. Authorities say about 15 others were
wounded.

Earlier Sunday, police say gunmen shot dead two Iraqi policemen in
Baghdad as they headed to work. Separately, a suicide bomber killed
three people at an Iraqi military checkpoint near Tikrit.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials say warplanes dropped bombs on suspected
insurgent hideouts in and around the Western town of Karabilah.

Authorities say about 50 insurgents have been killed and 100 others
captured in the operation.
