southern Florida with high winds and heavy rains as it barrels toward
the U.S. Gulf Coast.

The storm has toppled trees, cut power lines and forced the evacuation
of thousands in Florida. It could make landfall Sunday.

The National Weather Service says Dennis is packing winds of 170
kilometers per hour, with hurricane winds extending outward up to 105
kilometers.

center is about 150 kilometers west of Key West, Florida.

The hurricane hit Cuba Friday as a powerful Category Four storm, and
is blamed for the deaths of at least 10 people there. It lost strength
after slicing through the island, but regained power as it moved into
open water.

Earlier in the week, it caused flooding and mudslides in Haiti. At
least 10 deaths are blamed on the severe weather in that country.
