Mr. Bush said Monday the United States is well on its way to meeting its goal of supporting treatment for two million Africans by the end of 2008. In a statement to VOA Africa, the president said the United States is working with local health officials to expand testing facilities, upgrade treatment centers, care for AIDS orphans and teach young people the values of responsibility and prevention. Mr. Bush said that three years ago, fewer than 50-thousand people in sub-Saharan Africa were receiving treatment for HIV-AIDS. But 14 months after the United States began implementing its plan to fight the disease in Africa, more than 230,000 people in the region are being treated. .
