U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice who is in the Middle East says the United States and Egypt will work together to defeat the terrorists responsible for the bombings, whom she called a "scourge that knows no boundary and respects no creed." U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said in a statement that no cause or belief can justify the use of terror and violence against civilians. Russian President Vladimir Putin said "international terrorism" is trying to spread fear throughout "the civilized world"; he called on all nations to work together to defeat such attacks.
