Kenyans gather outside office buildings after they evacuated the
buildings A United Nations spokesman says the earthquake that struck
east-central Africa Monday has killed several people in the Democratic
Republic of Congo.

The spokesman from the U.N. humanitarian agency, Michel Bonnardeaux,
says the victims were killed by collapsing buildings in Kalemie, the
town nearest the epicenter of the strong quake.

The U.S. Geological Survey measured the quake at six-point-eight
magnitude and said it was centered beneath Lake Tanganyika, which
separates the DRC and Tanzania.

Tremors were felt in six countries overall, including Kenya, Burundi,
Rwanda, and Uganda.

Workers quickly evacuated office buildings Nairobi, Kenya as a
precaution.
