The spokesman from the U.N. humanitarian agency, Michel Bonnardeaux, says the victims were killed by collapsing buildings in Kalemie, the town nearest the epicenter of the strong quake. The U.S. Geological Survey measured the quake at six-point-eight magnitude and said it was centered beneath Lake Tanganyika, which separates the DRC and Tanzania.
