In a statement Friday, the military said 10 American Marines were killed and 11 wounded in a roadside bomb blast Thursday. The explosion struck a group of Marines patrolling the area on foot. To the west of Fallujah, in Ramadi, 500 U.S. and Iraqi troops launched "Operation Shank" Friday. It is the fifth in a series of joint operations to disrupt al-Qaida-in-Iraq terrorists operating in the Euphrates River Valley ahead of this month's parliamentary election. Meanwhile, in Baghdad, hundreds of Shi'ite and Sunni Muslims took to the streets in a show of unity against sectarian violence. They also denounced the alleged abuse of Sunni Arabs in a Shi'ite-run government jail. Some information for this report provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.   .
