At least 65 rebels were killed during fighting in southern Zabul province, where four U.S. soldiers died in a roadside bomb explosion Sunday, and recent American and Afghan operations in eastern Kunar province killed more than 40 insurgents. Kunar is where rebels shot down an American helicopter in June, killing all 16 U.S. service members on board. The helicopter was trying to rescue four American special forces fighters at the time. U.S. military officials say Monday's reports cover battlefield action during the past three weeks. Coalition forces are trying to flush out Taleban insurgents from their hideouts. The people of Afghanistan are preparing to vote in parliamentary elections which the rebels have vowed to sabotage. Some information for this report provided by Reuters. .
