Pakistani Diplomat Kidnapped in Baghdad

Foreign Ministry in Islamabad says missing man contacted members of
his embassy in Baghdad to report  he was in captivity but unhurt
Pakistan says a member of its embassy staff in Baghdad has been
kidnapped, but he is believed to be unharmed.

Pakistani officials said Sunday that a previously unknown insurgent
group, Omar bin Khattab, claims it carried out the kidnapping. The
Foreign Ministry in Islamabad says the missing man, Malik Mohammad
Javed, contacted members of his embassy in Baghdad to report that he
was in captivity but unhurt.

Malik Mohammad Javed had not been heard from since leaving his home in
Baghdad to attend evening prayers at a nearby mosque on Saturday,
which was the second anniversary of the collapse of Saddam Hussein's
regime in Iraq.

Scores of foreigners have been kidnapped in Iraq over the past year -
some by groups with political demands, others by criminals seeking
ransom. There has been no recent word about three Romanian journalists
and an Iraqi assistant kidnapped two weeks ago on the outskirts of
Baghdad.
