18 Iraqi Police Killed in Separate Insurgent Attacks

Officials also say a senior National Guard officer survived an
apparent assassination attempt, when a car bomb exploded near his home
in Baghdad Iraqi officials say insurgents attacked several police
posts in an area north of Baghdad Tuesday, killing at least 18
policemen and wounding several others.

Authorities say the attacks took place near Tikrit - Saddam Hussein's
hometown, as well as the town of Samara.

In Baquba, also north of the Iraqi capital, a roadside bomb blast
wounded at least four members of the Iraqi National Guard.

Officials say a senior National Guard officer survived an apparent
assassination attempt, when a car bomb exploded near his home in
Baghdad. At least eight guardsmen were wounded in the blast, some of
them seriously.

Separately, the U.S. military says soldiers captured two people along
with bomb making material in a raid near the town of Sindiyah Monday.
