Schmitz While Microsoft has updated [1]Office 2011 to version 14.5, we strongly recommend that you don't install this release ' particularly if you're running OS X 10.10 Yosemite ' as it has serious problems related to Outlook. Ostensibly, version 14.5 was issued to patch a [2]security vulnerability related to how Office 2011 handles files in memory, which could allow remote code execution from maliciously crafted Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. However, this release renders [3]Outlook's main window invisible on Yosemite (earlier systems don't seem to be affected), and email cannot be sent or received. If you've already installed version 14.5, you'll need to either restore Office 2011 14.4.9 from a backup or follow the instructions for deleting preferences via Terminal at the top of this [4]Apple Support discussion thread to return Outlook to its non-invisible state until Microsoft issues a fix for this issue.
