Longshoremen Reach Tentative Deal, Averting Major Ports Strike

A wide-ranging strike that would have shut down East Coast and Gulf
Coast ports next week has been averted for now as the longshoremen's
union reached a tentative deal Wednesday, guaranteeing job protections
from automated technology and major wage increases. Union members must
still vote on the agreement.
