New York Calls Up National Guard as Prison Guards Hold Wildcat Strike

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has deployed 3,500 members of the New
York National Guard to help run state-run prisons, including Attica,
after prison guards launched a wildcat strike. Prisoners are now being
kept on lockdown, and many are being denied family visits, legal
meetings and religious services. Soffiyah Elijah of the Alliance of
Families for Justice said, "Our family members and their incarcerated
loved ones are gripped by fear of what may happen with the governor's
calling in of the National Guard."
