May 17, 2023 Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Florida Hold Elections ------------------------------------------------- Voters went to the polls Tuesday in Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Florida. Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, who is a close ally of Mitch Mc Connell, won the Republican primary for Kentucky governor. He will face Democratic Governor Andy Beshear in November. In Jacksonville, Florida, Democrat Donna Deegan pulled off a shocking upset over her Republican rival to become the city's next mayor. Jacksonville had been the most populous city in the country with a Republican mayor. In Philadelphia, Cherelle Parker won a crowded Democratic mayoral primary. Parker had campaigned in part on hiring more police officers, while embracing the police tactic known as stop-and-frisk. In the heavily Democratic city, Parker appears set to become the first woman and first Black woman to run Philadelphia. .
