Six Asylum Seekers Die at Sea While Attempting to Reach Canary Islands

At least six refugees died after their inflatable boat was adrift at sea
for several days as they tried to reach the Canary Islands in Spain.
Twenty-three others on board were rescued near the island of Tenerife.
The boat had departed from a coast near the city of Dakhla in Western
Sahara. A Spanish humanitarian group estimates nearly 2,000 refugees
died in 2022 while trying to reach the Canary Islands by boat.
