Brazilian Supreme Court Says Homophobic Slurs Can Be Punishable by Prison

Brazil's Supreme Court has ruled that homophobic slurs are a crime that
can be punished with prison time. The ruling was welcomed by activists
as the LGBTQIA community remains a frequent target of violent attacks.
Rights groups said there were 228 murders of LGBTQIA people in Brazil
last year, which was also the final year of the presidency of
self-proclaimed "proud homophobe" Jair Bolsonaro.
