Arizona Judge Reinstates 158-Year-Old Abortion Ban

A county judge in Arizona has banned nearly all abortions in the state,
citing a law signed in 1864, when Arizona was still a territory. Under
the 1864 law, there is no exception for rape or incest, and anyone who
helps a woman obtain an abortion could face two to five years in prison.
The head of Planned Parenthood slammed the abortion ban, saying it was
"sending Arizonians back nearly 150 years." The judge's ruling came a
day before a new law went into effect in Arizona banning abortions after
the 15th week of pregnancy.
