Labor Dept. Proposes Rule to Prevent Violation of "Gig Workers" Rights

The Labor Department has proposed a new rule that could prevent
companies like Lyft and Uber from misclassifying workers as independent
contractors and deny them essential rights and benefits. The Labor
Department said, "Misclassification is a serious issue that denies
workers' rights and protections under federal labor standards, promotes
wage theft, allows certain employers to gain an unfair advantage over
law-abiding businesses, and hurts the economy at-large."
