U.S. Records First Polio Case in Nearly 10 Years

A New York state man has been diagnosed with polio, the first case of
the virus in the United States in nearly a decade. The man was not
vaccinated against the polio virus. The U.S. was declared polio-free in
1979, but global efforts to combat the disease have failed to entirely
stamp out reservoirs of the virus, which can cause paralysis.
