Secret Service Under Criminal Investigation for Deleted Jan. 6 Messages

A government watchdog has opened a criminal investigation into the
Secret Service's destruction of text messages sent around the time of
the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. In announcing its probe, the
Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Homeland Security
noted that the messages were deleted after officials requested them in
order to aid the House January 6 committee's investigation - after the
officials requested they be preserved.
