July 1, 2022 Ketanji Brown Jackson Sworn In as First Black Women Supreme Court Justice ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ketanji Brown Jackson was sworn in Thursday as the 116th justice of the U.S. Supreme Court - and the first Black woman to hold the position in the court's 233-year history. At a noon ceremony, Chief Justice John Roberts administered Jackson a constitutional oath. She then took a judicial oath administered by retiring Justice Stephen Breyer, for whom Jackson clerked after she graduated from Harvard Law School in 1996. .
