Todd Gitlin, 1960s Radical Who Critiqued Left-Wing Movements, Dies at 79
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Todd Gitlin, one of the founding members of Students for a Democratic
Society, has died at the age of 79. Gitlin helped organize protests
against racial segregation in the Jim Crow South and apartheid South
Africa. He was also a leading opponent of the Vietnam War. Gitlin went
on to become a professor of culture, journalism and sociology at NYU and
Columbia Universities.
