December 8, 2022 Iran Announces First Execution of Person Arrested in Recent Protests -------------------------------------------------------------------- Iran's government has announced the first execution of a protester who was sentenced to die for joining anti-government protests. Mohsen Shekari was hanged early this morning after a Revolutionary Court found him guilty of "enmity against God," accusing him of rioting during a demonstration in Tehran in September. The protests erupted after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody, after she was arrested for allegedly wearing her hijab improperly. Amnesty International has condemned death sentences handed down to protesters, saying they followed "grossly unfair trials marked by summary and predominantly secret processes." .
