Thousands Flood German Village to Protest Plans to Expand Open-Pit Coal Mine

About 4,000 protesters rallied in the village of Lützerath in western
Germany over the weekend, seeking to halt the expansion of a massive
open-pit coal mine. The village is set to be demolished to make way for
the nearby Garzweiler mine, which produces brown coal, or lignite - one
of the world's dirtiest fossil fuels.
