"Shockingly Ill-Conceived": U.K. Plans to Resettle Asylum Seekers in Rwanda

The British government has announced it could soon resettle some asylum
seekers to Rwanda as an attempt to deter more people from attempting to
reach Britain for refuge. Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke Thursday.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson: "This innovative approach, driven by our
shared humanitarian impulse and made possible by Brexit freedoms, will
provide safe and legal routes for asylum while disrupting the business
model of the gangs."

Human rights groups condemned the plan as "shockingly ill-conceived."
Amnesty International UK said in a statement, "Sending people to another
country - let alone one with such a dismal human rights record - for
asylum 'processing' is the very height of irresponsibility and shows how
far removed from humanity and reality the Government now is on asylum
issues."
