U.N. Warns Planet Headed Toward Catastrophic 2.7°C Warming

The United Nations warns the planet is on course for a catastrophic
global temperature rise of 2.7 degrees Celsius, even if nearly 200 U.N.
member states meet their stated goals for cutting emissions. That's far
beyond the 1.5 degree goal of the Paris climate accord and would mean a
massive loss of lives and livelihoods, with whole ecosystems collapsing
amid deadly heat waves, powerful storms and rising sea levels.
