Justice Department Brings New Charges Against Ransomware Hackers

The Justice Department said Monday it has indicted two hackers behind
major ransomware attacks in the U.S. and has recovered more than $6
million in cryptocurrency payments. Attorney General Merrick Garland
said one of the two men, a Russian hacker with the REvil ransomware
gang, remained at large, while a Ukrainian co-conspirator had been
arrested in Poland and would be extradited to the U.S. for trial.
Garland said the criminal gang's ransomware has infected over 175,000
computers worldwide, with at least $200 million paid in ransom.
