January 28, 2021 Hungry Lebanese Protesters Clash with Police over Coronavirus Lockdown  ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Meanwhile, in Lebanon, at least one person was killed as police fired live bullets at protesters who tried to storm a government building in the northern city of Tripoli. Protesters say a strict lockdown has exacerbated an economic crisis, leading to widespread hunger. Suleiman Mounir al-Ataki: "I am standing with the people here, the poor and hungry people, people who can't find something to eat." Wife of al-Ataki: "Tomatoes are at 5,000 Lebanese pounds per kilo, if we want to eat them with some lentils." Suleiman Mounir al-Ataki: "They closed our shops, our houses and everything because of coronavirus." Wife of al-Ataki: "'Stay at home. Stay at home.' Is this how you ask people to stay at home?
