Brazilian Indigenous Groups and Others Demand Justice in Lawsuit over 2015 Mariana Dam Disaster

In Britain, a trial is underway over the 2015 Mariana dam collapse in
Minas Gerais, Brazil, which killed 19 people and destroyed nearby
villages as mudflow with millions of tons of toxic mining waste
blanketed nearby villages. The Samarco mine was owned by Brazilian
company Vale and Anglo-Australian multinational BHP, which is being sued
by over 200,000 Brazilian individuals, local governments and
organizations, including Indigenous tribes whose lands were decimated by
the disaster. This is Guaraní Indigenous chief Kara'i Peru.

Kara'i Peru: "What we had, they took everything. They finished it off.
With what they did in our river, it ended everything for us. How are we
going to survive with this polluted river? They have already killed us."
