Top U.S. General Holds Unplanned Talks with Taliban and Afghan President
------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Mark Milley, chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with
Taliban negotiators in Qatar for unannounced talks this week. He also
met separately with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to discuss the peace
process. The meetings came amid a new drawdown of U.S. troops and as
violence continues to claim lives and hamper the ongoing negotiations.
