Ukraine Expert Who Listened to Trump Phone Call to Testify in Impeachment Hearings

In news from Washington, Army lieutenant colonel Alexander Vindman is
slated to testify to congressional lawmakers as part of the ongoing
impeachment inquiry into whether President Trump withheld military aid
from Ukraine in order to pressure Ukraine to investigate his political
rival, Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Vindman is the top Ukraine expert
on the National Security Council. He is the first witness to testify who
listened in on Trump's July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President
Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Vindman says Trump appealed to Zelensky to
investigate Biden. Vindman registered two internal objections at the
time. In a pre-released statement, Vindman said, "I did not think it was
proper to demand that a foreign government investigate a U.S. citizen,
and I was worried about the implications for the U.S. government's
support of Ukraine."
