December 24, 2019 Syria: Up to 100,000 Civilians Forced to Flee Intensification of Fighting in Idlib ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Syria, up to 100,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in the northwestern province of Idlib amid an intensification of the Russian-backed Syrian government offensive there. About 3 million people currently live in Idlib province, which has been bombarded by Russian and Syrian airstrikes for months. Increasingly heavy fighting in recent days has forced tens of thousands of people to flee toward the Turkish border, as the Syrian government seeks to seize control of one of the last territories held by anti-government rebels.
