Founded in 1955 by Dan Wolf, Ed Fancher and Norman Mailer, the left-leaning paper was the first alternative weekly in the United States. Last year it stopped its print publication, and on Friday publisher Peter Barbey said he was shutting down the influential newspaper entirely. .
