Trump Attacks Sessions for Filing Charges Against 2 Republican Congressmen

President Trump has attacked Attorney General Jeff Sessions, after the
Justice Department filed charges against Republican Congressmember
Christopher Collins of New York and Republican Congressmember Duncan
Hunter of California. Collins is accused of insider trading. Hunter is
accused of illegally using campaign funds for personal expenses. The two
Republicans were the first and second members of Congress to endorse
candidate Donald Trump in 2016. Jeff Sessions, then senator, was the
third. On Monday, Trump tweeted, "Two long running, Obama era,
investigations of two very popular Republican Congressmen were brought
to a well publicized charge, just ahead of the Mid-Terms, by the Jeff
Sessions Justice Department. Two easy wins now in doubt because there is
not enough time. Good job Jeff......" In response, Nebraska Republican
Senator Ben Sasse said, "The United States is not some banana republic
with a two-tiered system of justice-one for the majority party and one
for the minority party," in a rebuke of the president and a member of
his own party.
