September 27, 2018 Trump Claims No Plans to Fire Deputy AG Rosenstein over Mueller Probe --------------------------------------------------------------------- President Trump said Wednesday he has no immediate plans to fire deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, who's overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Earlier this week, the New York Times reported Rosenstein had suggested secretly recording President Trump in the White House and recruiting Cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office for being unfit. Trump was due to meet Rosenstein today to discuss his future at the Justice Department, but the President said at Wednesday's news conference at the U.N. he may delay that meeting until after today's Senate hearing with Judge Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford. President Donald Trump: "I would much prefer keeping Rod Rosenstein, much prefer. Many people say I have the right to absolutely fire him. He said he did not say it. He said he does not believe that." .
