February 8, 2018 North Dakota: 1-Year Prison Sentence for Anti-Pipeline Activist --------------------------------------------------------------- In North Dakota, a court has sentenced anti-pipeline activist Michael Foster to one year in prison, after he broke into an oil pipeline facility and turned a manual safety valve to cut off the flow of tar sands oil coming into the United States from Canada. Foster was one of 10 people arrested in October 2016 as part of a coordinated campaign that saw similar actions in Minnesota, Montana and Washington state. .
