Germany Holds Same-Sex Weddings as Marriage Equality Law Takes Effect

In Germany, same-sex couples married legally for the first time over the
weekend as a new marriage equality law came into effect. Registry
offices in several German cities opened a day earlier than normal-on
Sunday-to allow for the ceremonies. Germany's parliament approved a
marriage equality law in June after Prime Minister Angela Merkel dropped
her opposition to the measure.
