NYPD Settles Suit over Baseless Criminal Summonses for $75 Million
------------------------------------------------------------------

New York City taxpayers will pay $75 million to settle a class action
lawsuit against the New York Police Department over its issuing of
nearly a million criminal summonses that were later dismissed for lack
of evidence. Lawyers say the summonses were "selectively and
disproportionately" issued in communities of color.
