Republicans Retain House and Senate Majority

Meanwhile, Republicans captured both the House and Senate, positioning
their party to control all three branches of government. Democrats
gained a Senate seat but will fall short of the 51 seats needed to
overcome Vice President-elect Mike Pence's tie-breaking power. In the
House, Republicans will hold a comfortable majority, with at least 236
of the chamber's 435 seats.
