Hong Kong Pro-Independence Movement Faces Crackdown

In Hong Kong, police fired pepper spray against thousands of
demonstrators who flooded the streets to protest a crackdown by China's
central government on the city's independence movement. The clashes came
after authorities said they would bar a pair of elected officials from
taking office, after the two pledged allegiance to the "Hong Kong
nation" and displayed a banner reading "Hong Kong is not China" during a
swearing-in ceremony in October.
