Congo: Security Forces Kill 26 Protesters Demanding President Step Down

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, security forces shot and killed
at least 26 protesters Tuesday as crowds took to the streets to demand
President Joseph Kabila step down after his second term expired Monday
at midnight. Kabila succeeded his father as president in 2001. Scheduled
elections in November were postponed, leaving no successor to Kabila.
