December 2, 2016 Students Hold 2nd Day of Action Demanding "Sanctuary Campuses" -------------------------------------------------------------- Back in the United States, students at campuses across the country protested Thursday, demanding their university or college become a "sanctuary campus." In the wake of Donald Trump's promises to deport millions of people immediately upon taking office, students are demanding university administrators refuse to share information with immigration authorities, refuse to allow ICE agents on campus, and support equal access to in-state tuition and financial aid and scholarships for undocumented students. This is Thais Marques, a student at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. Thais Marques: "I'm undocumented, so this really matters to me because it directly affects my life. But also, like I've seen what deportations do to families. I've seen like the pain of my community is so deep. And this is just to show our community that it's OK to come out as unafraid and unapologetic and really show our resilience that we're going to fight. And this is only the first step." .
