Obama Sets Record by Granting 214 Prisoners Clemency in One Day
---------------------------------------------------------------

President Obama commuted the sentences of 214 federal prisoners on
Wednesday. The White House says it is the largest number of prisoners
granted clemency on a single day in at least the last 100 years. Almost
all of those released had been convicted of nonviolent drug crimes. To
date, Obama has commuted the sentences of 562 federal prisoners, more
than the previous nine presidents combined.
