August 29, 2016 Brazil: Dilma Rousseff to Take Stand in Impeachment Trial Today --------------------------------------------------------------- In Brazil, suspended President Dilma Rousseff will take the stand today to defend herself in an impeachment trial that's expected to lead to her ouster. Lawmakers voted to suspend Rousseff in May, in what many consider a coup by her right-wing opponents. Leaked transcripts show at least one official plotted to oust Rousseff in order to end a corruption investigation targeting him. The group Transparency Brazil says 60 percent of Brazilian lawmakers are currently under criminal investigation or have already been convicted of crimes ranging from corruption to election fraud.
