March 31, 2015 Canada: Student to File Charges After Being Hit in Face with Police Tear Gas Canister -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Quebec, an 18-year-old student says she will press charges against a Quebec City police officer after she was hit in the face by a tear-gas canister. Naomi Trudeau-Tremblay was participating in protests against austerity cuts in the provincial budget when an officer fired the tear-gas canister into her face at point-blank range. She described what happened. Naomi Trudeau-Tremblay: "I was gasping for breath. I didn't realize right away that I was swollen like this. I just put my hands like this. I was trying to catch my breath, and then I lost consciousness for about two minutes, not too long. When I got up, I touched my face and felt that it was burned." .
