Mexico Sells First Oil Contracts to Private Companies in 80 Years

In Mexico, the government has auctioned off the first oil and gas
contracts to private companies in more than 80 years, following
President Enrique Peña Nieto's decision to open up the oil industry to
foreign and private companies. At the first auction Wednesday, the
Houston-based firm Talos Energy, British firm Premier Oil and the
Mexican company Sierra Oil & Gas bought contracts to drill off the coast
of the southern state of Veracruz.
