December 3, 2015 Report: Pentagon Spent $150M on Private Villas in Afghanistan -------------------------------------------------------------- Meanwhile, a government watchdog has accused the Pentagon of wasting nearly $150 million of taxpayer money on luxury private housing for U.S. government staff in Afghanistan. The report by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction details how the military spent millions of dollars putting up staff members in villas with private security in Kabul, rather than housing the staff on military or diplomatic bases. It also details lavish three-course meals for government events. This comes only a month after the same watchdog agency raised questions about the $43 million the Pentagon spent on a single gas station in Afghanistan. The United States has appropriated nearly $110 billion of public money for reconstruction in Afghanistan since 2002. .
