Afghanistan: One of First Openly Gay Female Soldiers Killed in Suicide Bombing

Meanwhile, new details about Monday's deadly suicide bombing near the
Bagram Air Base show that one of the six U.S. soldiers killed was Major
Adrianna Vorderbruggen, one of the first openly gay female
servicemembers. She had spent years working to repeal the U.S.
military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, and died one day before the
fifth anniversary of its repeal.
