India: Funeral Held for Farmer Who Killed Himself at Rally

In India, a funeral has been held for a farmer who hanged himself from a
tree at a protest in the capital New Delhi. Gajendra Singh left a note
saying he had suffered crop losses as a result of heavy rains. His death
came in the midst of a political rally opposing Indian Prime Minister
Narendra Modi's bill to ease corporate land takeovers. More than 300,000
Indian farmers have killed themselves amid debts and crop failures since
1995.
