September 17, 2014 U.S. Delays Curbing Power Plant Emissions 1 Week Before U.N. Climate Summit ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Obama administration has announced a delay in its most sweeping effort to date to combat climate change. The Environmental Protection Agency is extending the public comment period on a proposal to curb carbon emissions from power plants by another 45 days until December 1, after the midterm elections. The plan has faced major opposition from industry lobbyists and both Republican lawmakers and their Democratic counterparts from coal-producing states. The delay comes just a week before delegates and protesters from around the world gather in New York City for a U.N. summit, and two days before that, the People's Climate March against global warming. .
