Report: French Intel Officer Defects to al-Qaeda Group in Syria

According to Mc Clatchy, one of the first targets of U.S. airstrikes in
Syria last month was a former French intelligence officer who defected
to the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front. The officer is said to be al-Qaeda's
highest-ranking defector. He reportedly survived the attack.
